John Terry Makes A Return To Chelsea

John Terry has taken to social media to reveal that he is returning to Chelsea as an academy coach after his recent departure from Leicester City.

Terry posted on Instagram with the caption “I’m delighted to be back home working in the academy and continuing my role at the club”.

The Blues legend made 717 appearances as a player for the club, winning 5 premier league titles, 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, The Champions League and Europa League.

Terry came through the clubs academy himself joining the club at 14. He made his senior debut in October 1998 aged 17.

His first coaching role came in 2018 when he was appointed assistant manager to incoming Aston Villa manager Dean Smith. Terry had played for Villa the previous season before announcing his retirment to pursue a coaching career.

He departed the midlands club in July 2021 to take time away and be able to visit clubs and organisations to build on his coaching knowledge from many different environments.

He returned to Cheslsea academy in a consultancy role, working closely with players and coaches without taking ownership of a team. He then started to work with theU21s and coach Mark Robinson.

When Dean Smith took over at Leicester towards the end of the 2022-23 season, Terry reunited with him until the end of the season, but was unable to stop the Foxes from relegation to the Championship.

It is unclear what his role will be within the academy, but offers plenty of experience for young players coming through at the club.
